More About Our Program

The focus at Martello Enrichment School is to provide a solid foundation in Mathematics, Language Arts and Science. History and Geography are also important components of our program. At the earliest level, these areas of our curriculum are introduced and they help to encourage our young students to read, learn to spell, work with numbers, participate in science experiments, initiate independent projects and explore their environment.

Individualized Programming and Grade Structure

Each child is assessed at entry and progresses within a program that best suits his/ her own rate of development and achievement. This flexibility allows each child to advance at their own pace of natural development within a chronological grade structure.

Student-Teacher Ratio

Martello Enrichment School maintains a low ratio to enable each student to benefit from an individualized enrichment program.

Specialty Programs

French

Martello Enrichment School has a comprehensive French program beginning at the Junior Kindergarten level. This program involves individual and class participation in both conversational and written activities.

Physical Education

Our Physical Education program, under the direction of a physical education specialist, is designed to develop gross motor co-ordination through regular participation in team sports, games, and activities. Older students receive the opportunity to use their skills by participating in annual district sports competitions.

Music

Martello Enrichment School has a music-education program under the direction of a music specialist. Our program is based on an Orff/Kodaly teaching method and begins at the Junior Kindergarten level. Singing with the Martello Children’s Chorus and performing in school concerts play an important and beneficial role in our students’ musical development at Martello Enrichment School.

Dramatic Expression

Plays, skits and puppet shows play at Martello Enrichment School help to develop our students’ confidence and self-esteem.

Field Trips / Special Guests

Each year Martello Enrichment School plans local and regional field trips for all classes. These excursions have included tours of historical sites such as the Murney Tower, Fort Henry, Upper Canada Village, the Royal Ontario Museum, Agnes Etherington Art Centre, Little Cataraqui Conservation Area and many more. Martello Enrichment School also invites many local professionals and special interest groups such as the Mad Science Workshops and the 1000 Islands Young Theatre Production Company to share their skills and enthusiasm with our students.

Hours of Operation

Classes begin daily at 9:00am with a mid-morning recess. Lunch begins at 12:00pm. Classes resume at 1:00pm with a mid-afternoon recess. Dismissal is at 3:30pm. The school observes all statutory holidays and follows the public school calendar for designated P.A. Days. A Before-School drop-off at 8:00am is included in the tuition. An After-School program runs from 4:00pm until 5:00pm daily. A separate fee is charged for the use of this service.
